Kate Coleman

Research Scientist

Kate is a research scientist in the Beck lab interested in developing therapeutic strategies to selectively target UBA1 mutations in VEXAS syndrome. From her experiences as a graduate student in Jean Cook’s lab at UNC-Chapel Hill and as a postdoc in Tony Huang’s lab at NYU Langone, she has extensive research background in the regulation of the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS), especially in the context of DNA replication and repair. Following her academic training, she later transitioned into the biotechnology space, where she focused on assay development at two biotech startups. At Concarlo Therapeutics, she established cell-based assays to evaluate in vitro efficacy of small molecule therapeutic candidates for treating drug-resistant metastatic breast cancer. At Yarrow Biotechnology, she contributed to a small team discovering and functionally characterizing monoclonal antibody therapeutics for autoimmune and cardiometabolic disorders. Outside the lab, Kate enjoys running races, cooking recipes from the New York Times, wine and paint nights, and spending time with family and friends.
